About Us
The Amherst Youth & Recreation Department offers programs for residents of all ages. Program registration requires a resident ID card which is good from January 1 through December 31. Program activities are held at various Recreation and Community Center locations throughout the town. Amherst is home to over 20 outdoor park/playground locations which encompass both active and passive recreation. Park amenities include playgrounds, shelters, bike paths, tennis courts, sports fields and picnic areas. Picnic shelters and select facilities are available for rental by large groups. Two beautiful pools along with a splash park are available for resident use during the summer months.
From spring through late fall, area residents and non-residents alike can enjoy golfing at 3 public golf courses. Each course offers its own unique challenge. A driving range is also available for those who want to brush up on their game or take a few swings.
Year round indoor ice skating is available through the Northtown Center at Amherst. The facility offers Public Skate sessions for people of all ages. In addition to 3 NHL ice rinks and one Olympic sized rink, the complex grounds include a collegiate baseball field, 8 softball fields and 2 football fields.
